Artspring Day was awesome

It was a great day at ArtSpring enjoying the light and ambiance of the store. Thanks to everyone who came over to the table to make portraits with us.
The show looks beautiful and I was told that many folks have been by to compliment us.
Great Job!

We were surprised to get a call from Verizon Cable Channel One today. A cameraperson came to ArtSpring and filmed us for a good while. We'll get the clip (3 minutes, I was told) next week.

So all in all, today was a good one!
Pictures to follow soon.

I had so much fun doing this. I really got into it. It took me almost 3 hours. I like working with lots of colors!! They are the best. The brightness of the colors reflects the brightness of the hope I feel.

After the Snow

Five of us made it to Studio Downstairs today ..through the ice ,snow, traffic, metro and bus system. We worked on portraits relating to how we were feeling or how we felt in the past. The portraits are serious, some sad, some wistful.

watching myself

I just had my first experience with "photo booth" on my new laptop. It took me by surprise to see my self on camera, as both an observer and the observed. It took a while to grasp what I was seeing as I did not recognize myself... "I" am much younger and more alive than the tired aged face I saw on camera. When I opened the discussion to those around me, their collective comment was: "What's the surprise? You see yourself in the mirror every day"... But it was just different. I think the mirror image must become a generalization or an assumption after a while. We look in it and see what we want to see... or something. This video thing was more "real time". I will work on a self portrait from photo booth and see what happens...

Welcome to our Blog....for consumers of mental health and others to question, comment and share ideas about
creativity, mental health and portraits inside and outside the box. How do you see yourself, now , over time? How do others see you? What does it mean to be 'seen'. How do you see yourself differently from how others see you? How do you express that either artistically or through writing? We want to hear from you!! We are a group of artists,/mental health consumers putting on a show in June called Look In/Look OUt! and we are interested in dialoging about this. So check out our website and blog back to us!!! www.studiodownstairs.org
